Devised by the warlock Arthemius, the ritual Satanicus Cannabicea, was first performed in the Dark Ages by a group of dissident monks outside of Brussels, Belgium. In an attempt to dominate the spice trade, the monks performed the ritual to infuse their garden with demonic power. The unholy brotherhood performed the ritual at Midnight on June 6th, 666AD.

Townsfolk nearby reported seeing a bright red flash in the sky and a plume of intoxicating smoke rising from the monastery, but when they went to investigate, the monastery and the brotherhood were gone. Only a pile of smoldering ash was left in their place. The scroll containing the ritual, was kept in the castle of Baron Jacob Draven, an occultist who supported the brotherhood. Draven’s castle was sacked by prohibitionists shortly thereafter, and the scroll went missing for centuries.

In 2024, the scroll resurfaced in Boston, found in a collection of European antiquities at an estate sale. We happened to be the lucky buyers, not realizing what power we had unlocked.

Two months after the scroll was found, we gathered a small group of friends to perform the ritual in a discreet warehouse outside of Boston.

Seconds after the final hymn was spoken, the ground under our feet tore apart, flames and sweet smoke spewed out and a booming voice shouted: “The first brotherhood to perform this ritual provided Hell with the essence of life required to cultivate our farm. The second shall receive the fruits of our labor and be cursed with spreading it to all humanity”.

With a blinding flash, the hellfire vanished, leaving us dazed. All that remained was an ornate red lacquered jar, inlaid with gold. We slowly opened the jar and inside were pounds of the finest pre-ground cannabis anyone had ever seen. We grabbed all we could and locked the jar in our secret warehouse.

Upon returning the next day, we discovered the jar was full again. Every time we opened it, it was full again to the brim. We knew what we had to do. That night, Devil’s Lettuce Cannabis was born.
